It’s no longer news that FAB magazine held one of the most interesting fashion events of the year with Vlisco on Sunday 5^th of December and in my usual fashion my wadering and very tired eyes captured certain stylish people made the event tick. Make up was done by Lola Maja and hair by none other than Ugo of Make Me hair salon.

Kiki Couture Fashion Show, Part 2

Ankara collection

No need to introduce the label, for info on the designer and the label see Part 1 of this series. The African collection featured a fusion of denim and batik prints giving a modern vibe to the use of African print.

 

  Interesting Point(s)

·         Embellishments on the sleeve of the mono strap jumpsuit.

·         Embellishments on the corset part of the jumpsuit last pictured in the African collection.

·         Fusion of fabrics was executed beautifully.

Dull Point(s)

·         Some of the batik prints used was not as vibrant as I would’ve loved.

 

 

 

Contemporary Collection

 

 

The contemporary collection saw the designer use more feminine and colorful fabrics even though black was the predominant color. One word that kept popping into my mind whilst I was seeing the looks was ‘Socialite’.

 

 

 Interesting Point(s)

·         Presence of color added a romantic feel.

·         The clothes were draped beautifully.

Dull Point(s)

·         None that I can think of.

 

Conclusion

Not a bad showing for a new label, but if you want to survive the strong competition in the Nigerian fashion industry as a new label, you got to work a lot harder.

Kiki Couture Fashion Show, Part 1-Backstage

 

  Newly launched Nigerian label, Kiki Couture held its first fashion show on Sunday the 28^th of November at Fork & Fingers restaurant and event place, Opebi road, ikeja. I captured images backstage and on the runway and thought to do a 2 part post for easy analysis.

Facts about the Designer 

• ·         Born and raised in Lagos.
• ·         Graduated from University of Lagos with a diploma in Social Development Studies and a BSC in sociology in 1999.
• ·         Left for the US in 1999.
• ·         Started taking fashion design classes in Sacramento City College in 2007.
• ·         Later groomed into sewing by her Mom who is still into dress making in California at present.
• ·         In 2010, returned back to Nigeria and launched Kiki Couture.
